BLOOD DONOR
PROGRAM 

All potential blood donors will receive an initial physical examination and blood typing performed at our clinic (this procedure will be free of charge). Those animals which are found to be suitable will then receive a CBC, Chemistry Screen, Urinalysis, Fecal analysis as well as a Felv/FIV/Mycoplasma or heartworm tests as indicated (also performed at no charge). Dogs will also be tested for Brucella and other infectious diseases.

In turn, the owner must agree to a few basic conditions such as feeding premium quality pet food, keeping their dog or cat free of external and internal parasites and maintaining current vaccinations. All qualified donors will receive appreciation gifts as well as complimentary food at the time of donating.

In the future, if the donor dog or cat themselves are in need of a blood transfusion we will perform the transfusion at no charge.

CRITERIA FOR FELINE DONORS

·        Between the ages 2-9 years

·        Body weight greater than 8lbs

·        Packed cell volume greater than 35%

·        Good physical condition and temperament

·        No previous transfusions

·        Felv, FIV, Mycoplasma negative

·        Indoor cat

CRITERIA FOR CANINE DONORS

·        Between the ages of 2-9 years

·        Body weight greater than 50lbs

·        Packed cell volume greater than 40%

·        Good physical condition and temperament

·        No previous transfusions

·        DEA 1.1, 1.X and 7 negative (we will type if suitable)

·        Heartworm negative
